Can someone please explain to me why: I am a vegan, I watch my grains, I exercise 6x a week, lift weights 3x a week, do yoga 1-2x a week. I don't take medications, I stay away from anything with artificial sweeteners - including gum and my beloved Diet Pepsi (2 years now), I don't drink, I don't smoke - and now I have CANCER.

And what is my treatment? Drugs - a medication for this, a medicine for this, a drug or this, a treatment for this, and then - drugs to counteract all the affects of the drugs. I'm now going to voluntarily put deadly drugs into my body - the body that is my temple, that I've kept healthy - why oh why oh why?

Is fighting cancer with chemotherapy and radiation proactive or reactive? What does this say about the doctor-patient medical world culture?

Out of fear I weigh my options, choosing chemo because it's "proven." And - it's damn cheaper than alternatives - go figure -

  1. Cancer is probably one of the only true non-discriminatory things that exist in our world... it could care less about who we are, what we've done in our lives or to our bodies. A non-respecter of persons... I hate to compare it to a higher power, but it does act as if it is one, doesn't it?

When I was diagnosed with hyperplasia several years ago and had to have an emergency hysterectomy, I thought this pre-cancer condition had a LOT of nerve deciding what to do with my body without my being part of the decision making process! Now I try to LIVE each and every day because I don't know when and where it will chose to rear it's ugly head...
